The Grambs Aronson Award for Cartooning with a Conscience
Presented by: The Hunter College Department of Film & Media Studies, an Awards Committee of journalists, media critics and artists and an advisory board of cartoonists and illustrators.
Description: Honors editorial and topical cartooning evidencing distinction in some combination of creative mastery of traditional artistic technique; coherent, compassionate, consistent social vision, inventive comic narrative, and innovation in the forms of media cartooning.
Requirements: Open to work that has appeared in a regularly published print or digital outlet in 2011. Animations are welcome. Submit a portfolio of best work, maximum of 10 pieces. Work to be submitted online.
Entry fee: $30 for-profit publications; $15 non-profit publications and freelancers
Deadline: Entry forms must be postmarked by January 11, 2012

The Herblock Prize

Description: For distinguished examples of editorial cartooning with themes of defending basic freedoms, combating all forms of discrimination and prejudice, and improving the condition of the poor and underprivileged
Requirements: Open to work published in 2011 in daily or weekly newspapers or magazines in the U.S. or its territories, including US editions of foreign publications. Submit no more than 20 or fewer than 10 copies. Include bio and photo. Animated cartoons also accepted for consideration.
Entry fee: waived
Prize: $15,000 tax free cash award and a sterling silver trophy designed by Tiffany & Co.
